McGee Pass Trail

 

Trail head Location:
On Hwy. 395, 30 miles north of Bishop or 8½ miles south of Mammoth Lakes turnoff (Hwy. 203), turn onto McGee Creek Road. Drive for 4 miles to the trail head which is at the end of the road on the right, just past the pack station.

Dates open:
Usually from late June through October, depending on the snow pack.

Type of camp:
Backpack 9½ miles on a moderate to strenuous trail. Highest elevation reached is 11,900 feet.

Permits:
Forest service wilderness permit. No campfires.

Comments:
Purify water, watch for bears and pack out all trash. Good fishing. Lots of mosquitos.
